The Elves were the first race to inhabit Thalesmere and have a rich history which goes back thousands of years. Shorter and with a lighter build than humans, the elves' most distinctive characteristic are their pointy ears, but they can also be recognized by their finer, more refined features.
By the time of the Convergence, 2000 years ago, the elves had built a thriving civilization in Thalesmere, which spread across both northern continents and their race numbered in the millions. However, the Convergence brought with it numerous species of monsters and a new race of intelligent beings, called humans. The initial monster infestations, have caused elven population to decline, which combined with the humans' much higher population rate to push them out of the eastern continent.
Elves and humans initially managed to coexist peacefully, with the elves' initial attitude towards humans being one of arrogant indifference, as they considered the humans to be inferior, due to their lack of magical ability and short lifespans. During this period, trade between the races was common, with the elves offering humans assistance against monsters, in exchange for menial and physical labor and interbreeding between the races was not uncommon, resulting in the humans gradually beginning to develop magical abilities. However, human population eventually outgrew the elves and this factor combined with humanity's gradual invention of new technologies, led to several bloody wars, causing much bitterness between the two races, which persists to this day.
Today, elven population has stabilized, due to the development of more sophisticated magic and fighting techniques, allowing them to combat the monster threat more efficiently, however elves are now confined to the western continent and face the threat of a numerically superior and immensely powerful humanity, who's advanced technology puts them on par with the elves.
