Humans are a recent arrival to Thalesmere, having first arrived from another world along with several species of monsters, roughly 2000 years ago during an event known as the Convergence, when an alignment of constellations caused several parallel planes to temporarily merge into eachother. Early humans were few in numbers, had no magical affinity and relied on crude, medieval technology and metallurgy.
Initial contact between the humans and elves, who's civilization was at the peak of its power at the time, was peaceful and the two races managed to coexist peacefully for almost a millennium, the elves initially adopting an attitude of aloofness and tolerance towards the humans, which they viewed as inferior, due to their lack of magical affinity and short lifespans. However, over the centuries, elven population gradually declined due to the various monster infestations which now plagued Thalesmere and the elves were eventually outnumbered by the humans, who had the advantage of a much higher reproductive rate.
The first conflicts between humans and elves, were heavily swayed in favor of the latter, due to the elves' magical abilities, however humans had started to develop magical affinity of their own, due to interbreeding with elves, albeit human ability for magic is drastically inferior. The elven wars and monster infestations forced the humans to develop advanced technologies, in order to counter their foes and the turning point came with the invention of steam power and gunpowder weapons, which evened the odds between the races. In addition, human advancements in the field of alchemy, allowed them to create specialized monster hunters, through the use of genetic mutations and monster population began to decline.
With these new advantages, humans began to spread at an unprecedented rate, eventually occupying the entirety of the eastern continent and driving the elves out. Recently, humans have began to expand into the southern continent, establishing several colonies on the northern shore of that arid land, coming into contact with the Catur race, which they have begun to enslave.
