Witchers Created through a combination of alchemical and magical processes resulting in genetic mutations, witchers are the answer to monster infestations. Genetically altered to benefit from greatly increased strength, agility, senses and healing, witchers are professional monster hunters who can be recognized by their cat-like, slitted golden eyes that glow in the dark, as well as by the two swords that they carry. Each witcher carries a pair of swords, a silver sword for fighting monsters and a steel sword for people and other creatures and is trained to expertly handle each blade. Taken in as orphans and trained from a very young age by the various witcher schools, young potential witchers undergo a grueling process of genetic mutation, called the Trial of Grasses, which kills every seven out of ten subjects, however it grants survivors greatly increased strength, reflexes and senses, such as night vision, however at a cost: witchers are sterile and can not have children. In addition, witchers make use of sign magic, simple gesture-based spells which can be cast easily during combat, using only one hand. Signs can vary in effects, from unleashing telekinetic blasts against an opponent, to slowing them, or creating a magical shield around the witcher.
