Cult of the Wolf God
Human religion is a monotheistic set of beliefs centered around the existence of a one, true god. Religion plays an important, but not overwhelming role in human society and culture, although the level of secularization varies between human nations, with the Empire being more secular and the Free Kingdoms being more religious.
Evil in human religion is viewed merely as the absence of good and is not attributed to a divine source. Human beliefs center around truthfulness, charity, ambition and righteousness. According to human beliefs, lying is the second worst sin, after murder. In accordance with the Codex, the sacred book of the human religion, heaven was created for humans by the Wolf Gods and given to them to rule over. However, corruption has angered the Wolf God, who then banished humanity to Thalesmere.
The Cult of the Wolf God is a very young religion, which has only been around since the arrival of the first humans to Thalesmere, roughly two thousand years ago. By comparison, elven religion predates it by at least ten thousand years. The Wolf God rewards those who seek to perfect their trade, as well as the pursuit of knowledge and charity. The ambition for self-fulfillment and self-perfection is regarded as the highest virtue in human religious beliefs.
Commandments of the Wolf God
Within the Codex, a number of religious principles are espoused and described as having been dictated by the Wolf God, himself. These principles are described as the Laws of the Pack, by the followers of the religion and are listed here.
- One shall not kill another
- One shall not lie
- One shall not steal
- One shall not shirk the duties of his trade
- One shall seek knowledge
- One shall help those in need
- One shall not worship false idols
- One shall strive for perfection
Human religion does not place emphasis on gender and is instead centered around self-improvement. Individuals who, throughout their lives, are virtuous and do not stray from the Laws of the Pack, may be canonized as saints by the Cult of the Wolf God. The most important of these saints, are Jacob the prophet, Rodrick the scholar and Elandra the merciful.
